The Australian Volunteers Program is an Australian Government-funded initiative that matches skilled Australians with partner organisations across the Pacific, Asia, and Africa to support them to achieve their own development goals.

Australian volunteers support hundreds of organisations through in-country, remote and hybrid assignments, assisting with education projects to advance locally led goals.

If you’re interested in sharing your skills overseas and experiencing new opportunities and cultures, we encourage you to learn more about what support is available through the program and how you can apply today.

Contributing education expertise in Laos

Bill Gilpin volunteered for 12 months as a Teacher and Teacher Trainer (ESL) at Souphanouvong University, Laos after more than 35 years working at the Victorian Department of Education.

A group of people sit around a table with papers and pens on the table in front of them. A man holds up a piece of paper so it's visible to others at the table, as though instructing or teaching. He is laughing or smiling candidly, and others at the table are either watching on, or looking their own papers.

Skills we're looking for

Volunteers support locally led education programs in a range of organisations. We regularly have a wide range of assignments in the education sector, including in English teaching, special education, academia and research, sport education, curriculum planning, and more. Available assignments depend on the current priorities of our overseas partner organisations.

Help build the capacity of education professionals working in the public and private sector. In addition to technical expertise, we look for volunteers with skills such as:

  • Adaptability and resilience
