  • This assignment seeks to assist the Ministry of Health in the supervision of the contract for the rehabilitation of the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) at the National Central Hospital and continue the implementation of rural sanitation guidelines and other priorities of the Environmental Health Unit, including development of a monitoring and evaluation system and development of public awareness materials
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Bachelor degree in public health, civil, environmental, water engineering or similar, experience in Construction Management and/or Superintendent work, ability to balance out creative skills and practical sense to design a program, including scoping, planning, scheduling, budgeting and prepare business cases, and some working experiences or understanding wastewater treatment plant and management is an advantage.
  • You will be working alongside compliance and WASH officers for the Environmental Health Unit and staff of the Engineers Without Borders in Vanuatu

About the Partner Organisation

The Environmental Health Unit under the Ministry of Health is responsible for implementing the Environmental Health program, largely defined in the Public Health Act – Amendment (2018), Food Control Act and regulations and Tobacco Control Act and regulations. At the provincial level, there are 4 existing resources in charge of implementing the Environmental Health and Food Safety activities. MOH has been partnering with Engineers without Borders (EWB) Australia to develop the rural hygiene and sanitation guidelines and standards, in particular helping with the consultation process with the Sanitation and Hygiene Working Group, trialling all technologies at the provincial level and compiling the final guidelines. This partnership identified the wastewater treatment plant for Vila Central Hospital needing substantial rehabilitation. It requires a person with the right skills to assist in supervising the activities.
