About the Partner Organisation
The Institute of Forestry (IOF) established as Nepal Forestry Institute in 1947 under the Nepal Government, Department of Forests, at Singh Durbar in Kathmandu. The Institute merged with Tribhuvan University in July 1972 under the name “Institute of Forestry”. The IOF Dean’s Office, located in Kathmandu, manages three campuses: The Institute of Forestry Dean Office at Kirtipur in Kathmandu, the IOF-Hetauda and the Campus in Hetauda, Makwanpur, and the IOF-Pokhara Campus in Pokhara, Kaski.
IOF’s long term goal is to be a centre of excellence in forestry and natural resource management.
There is a need for research to better understand these changes and to develop suitable policy responses to them. IOF is building strengths in research, including through its PhD program, which in turn strengthens education. Although several international partners have contributed to bringing the level of research and education at IOF to their current state, there is a strong felt need to further enhance IOF’s strengths through international connections. Therefore, an Australian volunteer can effectively support IOF in producing high quality research to help meet the challenges facing forestry in Nepal, as well as producing highly competent forestry graduates.
