We’re looking for an Urban Planner who can live and volunteer in a hybrid role both remotely (online) and in-country for a total of five months.
- Access to the region has traditionally been limited to trekking or flying into Lukla. This is changing with the construction of a 4x4 road, which has reached Surke, approximately 5 km away, and is expected to connect to Chaurikharka by mid-2026. To help manage the challenges associated with this transition, there is a need to strengthen urban design and planning mentoring capacity.
- This assignment seeks to contribute in develop a Place Story and test design scenarios for the Lukla / Chaurikharka areas with the Municipality and support the coordination and preparation of a workshop /community and stakeholder engagement process.
- You will be working alongside with municipal staff, local planners, designers and the community.

- Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality (KPLRM) is a local Government, located in Chaurikharka, near Lukla at Solukhumbu District.
- KPLRM focuses on improving service delivery, facilities, and sustainable development for local communities.
- A volunteer will work with municipal staff and local planners and designers to support the first phase of a longer-term planning process.

There are two allowances for a hybrid assignment.
The allowance for the in-country phase is AUD$ 79 per month, the allowance for the remote phase is AUD$ 1630 per month.

Requirements
- All applicants must be Australian citizens.
- A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.
- A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
Additional requirements for this assignment include First Aid Certificate.
