We’re looking for a Science Teaching Mentor who can live and volunteer for five months in Vanuatu 


  • This assignment seeks to improve students learning in schools and post-secondary institutions by improving science teachers' teaching strategies and in science laboratory learnings and support the implementation of the science curriculum across schools including monitoring of the new curriculum implementation. 
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need qualifications in Science Education preferably at postgraduate level, experienced in best-practice and discipline approaches to higher education across science faculty or/and teaching across STEM discipline in secondary school level, experiences in monitoring , implementing and evaluating courses and programs across school of science, and Strength in building capacity of students outcomes/success through evidence-based approach
  • You will be working alongside the Curriculum and Ministry of Education personnel, and of course with selected school science teachers

The core purpose of the Vanuatu National Curriculum is to provide a quality, relevant and harmonized curriculum to all students in Vanuatu from preschool to year 13 through conventional teaching delivery by teachers in classroom and laboratories as appropriate. Students tests and exams results have shown that students performance in science needs improvement and the need to support the teachers in their strategies and teaching delivery is identified as important for this to happen. There is no readily available qualified local persons to do this so hence an assistance of an expert volunteer is being sought.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
