We’re looking for a Policy, Planning and Compliance Support Officerwho can liver and volunteer for 12 months in Vanuatu



  • This assignment seeks to strengthen biosecurity policy frameworks by developing, reviewing, and updating policies to align with international standards and best practices, establish robust compliance monitoring and enforcement mechanisms to ensure effective implementation of biosecurity regulations, and transfer technical knowledge and skills to local staff to build sustainable long-term biosecurity policy and compliance capabilities  
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Bachelor's degree or preferably postgraduate qualifications in Policy Studies, Public Administration, Environmental Science, Agriculture, Biology, or related discipline. A minimum of 5 years experience in policy development, regulatory compliance, or government administration, and experiences in biosecurity, quarantine, environmental protection or agricultural regulation.
  •  You will be working alongside Biosecurity Officers reporting the Principal Biosecurity officer and ultimately the Director of the Department 

About the Partner Organisation 

The Department of Biosecurity Vanuatu has been established in February of 2013 after the endorsement by the Council of Ministers (COM) decision to separate the former Department of Livestock and Quarantine Services (DLQS) and establish the department of Biosecurity Vanuatu and the department of Livestock. The Plant Protection Act [CAP 239] and the Animal Importation and Quarantine Act [CAP 201] provide the legal framework for Biosecurity and other relevant agencies to keep harmful pests and diseases out of Vanuatu.

The department mission is to protect Vanuatu’s borders against the introduction and spread of foreign pests and diseases that could affect crops, animals, humans and the environment, and to enhance trade of Vanuatu’s products”

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
