We’re looking for a Community VET Surgeon and Clinic Mentorwho can live and volunteer for six months in Vanuatu


  • This assignment seeks to provide technical and capacity building support to Animal sterilisation program of the Association and partners and bolster veterinary services capacity to ensure sustainability of interventions, through education and community awareness.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need an awarded veterinary science qualification that is recognised by the Australian Veterinary Boards Council, or the Royal College of Veterinary Scientists and have at least two years of post-graduate clinical experience. To be able to perform surgery using gas anaesthesia or intravenous, and have worked on intensive sterilisation campaign before preferably in developing countries.
  • You will be working alongside the association personnel closely with the Department of Livestock of the Ministry of Agriculture, volunteers and the community. 

About the Partner Organisation 

AVA is Vanuatu’s first independent animal welfare clinic, providing free or subsidized veterinary services to communities.  They also conduct Outreach Clinics in other parts of Efate mainly but also other islands., specialising in dog population management (sterilisations), road accident injuries and general animal ailments. They work with Department of Livestock Production & Animal Health Services, and Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry and Biosecurity. And have established a community clinic on site and wish to transition from 1 day per week to 5 days per week.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
