We’re looking for a Youth Empowerment & Innovations Mentor who can live and volunteer in Lesotho for 12 months.

  • As a volunteer, you will be able to leverage global perspectives, technical expertise, and build the capacity of the local team.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a relevant qualification in Development Studies, Innovation Management, Business Administration, or related field as well as demonstrated experience in youth development, business development, entrepreneurship, or innovation ecosystems. Familiarity with the Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) framework and its application in development contexts would also be useful. 
  • Provide support to bridge knowledge gaps, work on program design and implementation, and enhance monitoring and evaluation systems.  

About the Partner Organisation 

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Maseru, Lesotho, works in the Kingdom of Lesotho helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. They support the government of Lesotho to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results.

This assignment is critical to supporting a national program looking to address the high rates of unemployment among the nation's youth. This project is known as 'Sebabatso' and has a mission related to youth empowerment through innovation and entrepreneurship. The UNDP are working in partnership with government and have a particular focus on the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) subproject. The volunteer will contribute to strengthening the program’s capacity to deliver inclusive, high-impact interventions that support youth-led enterprises and innovations.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  

Additional requirements for this assignment include providing or attaining a First Aid Certificate.
