We’re looking for a Veterinary Surgeon Mentor who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Palau.

  • This assignment seeks to support the provision of clinical care (preventive and treatment) for domestic animals in Palau.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Bachelor degree in Veterinary Science or equivalent and hold a current veterinary licence.
  • As a volunteer, you will support government agencies, eg. Division of Environmental Health, Division of Biosecurity, to help promote Palau's One Health agenda.

About the Partner Organisation

The Palau Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is a non-profit corporation founded in 2000 to promote the health and well-being of domestic animals in Palau, thereby promoting the health of people and communities.

Their vision is to provide successful population control by spay/neuter availability and education. This will have a direct and positive effect on public health issues and zoonotic disease transmission arising from Palau’s domestic animal population. The society follows a ‘One Health’ approach, where healthier pets make healthier humans.

PAWS is looking for the support of a small animal veterinarian, specializing in dogs and cats, who is especially proficient in spay/neuter sterilization surgeries. This sterilization component of the program is essential to their goal of humane population control, which it believes leads to a direct positive effect on public health.
