We’re looking for a Veterinary Nurse who can volunteer in a hybrid role both remotely (online) and in-country for a total of 6 months.
· This assignment seeks to mentor and support RSPCA PNG veterinary staff in-country through hands-on, on-the-job guidance to strengthen veterinary nursing knowledge, practical clinical skills, and staff confidence, contributing to improved quality and consistency of animal care across programs.
· To be considered for this role, you’ll need a recognised qualification in Veterinary Nursing or Animal Health (or equivalent certification).
· As a volunteer, you will support staff to trial, adapt, and embed agreed practices and systems within daily operations.
About the Partner Organisation
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Papua New Guinea (RSPCA PNG) is a non-profit organisation based in Port Moresby, providing essential animal welfare services across the National Capital District. Our facilities include a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, and education centre that deliver veterinary care, rescue services, and awareness programs. As the leading animal welfare organisation in PNG, we aim to extend our reach to other provinces, ensuring animals in all communities receive compassionate care and protection.
RSPCA PNG’s mission is to promote and safeguard animal welfare through education, advocacy, veterinary services, and community engagement. We work collaboratively with local communities, schools, government agencies, and non-governmental organisations to encourage responsible pet ownership and humane treatment of animals. We also maintain strong relationships with international animal welfare organisations to exchange expertise and strengthen our operational capacity.
An experienced international volunteer veterinary nurse will support and mentor the RSPCA’s local team to build knowledge, confidence, and practical clinical skills. This expertise is not available locally due to the absence of formal training pathways in veterinary nursing within PNG. Working alongside staff, the Veterinary Nursing Mentor will provide hands-on guidance, support skills transfer, and co-develop standardised practices and structured systems for patient care and clinical operations.
