We’re looking for a Tourism Planning Mentor who can live and volunteer for 6 months in Kiribati.
- This assignment seeks to work with the team to develop a Tourism Master Plan for Kirimitati.
- To be considered for this role, you’ll need a degree in Business, Commerce, Public Policy or other relevant qualification as well as experience in the development of a Tourism Plan with an excellent understanding of the tourism industry.
- You will be working alongside the team and liaising with a number of sectors such as the infrastructure, technology and communications areas, as well as with local communities, and hotel and tour service providers.
About the Partner Organisation
The Tourism Authority of Kiribati (TAK) is the national body responsible for leading and promoting tourism development in Kiribati. Kiribati has two distinct tourism destinations, Tarawa in the eastern part of Kiribati where the TAK headquarters is situated, and Kiritimati Island in the far eastern side where its Kiritimati subdivision is located. This is where the volunteer will be working.
Following the launch of the national development blueprint, abbreviated as KV20, the government is making a commitment for the first time that the tourism sector will be one of two leading sectors for Kiribati development, aside from the fisheries sector, for the years of 2016 to 2036.
A volunteer can support the development of a unified and inclusive strategic roadmap for sustainable tourism development in Kiritimati Island. The selected volunteer would assist TAK Kiritimati by working closely with the team throughout the consultation and drafting phases of the tourism master plan. The plan would be tailor made to suit the Kiritimati context, and in line with the Kiribati government’s aspirations for the tourism sector.
