We’re looking for a Technical Specialist and Mentor for the Audiovisual Archive volunteer in a hybrid role, both remotely (online) and in-country , for a total of 12 months. 


  • This assignment seeks to contribute to the development and modernisation of AMRT, I.P.’s Audiovisual Archive by ensuring audio and video materials documenting the Timorese Resistance are properly preserved, organised, and made accessible.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a degree in archival studies, audiovisual preservation, museum studies, or a related field, along with several years of professional experience in audiovisual archiving, digital preservation, or cultural heritage management.
  • You will be working alongside AMRT, I.P. staff, including archivists, curators, and a small team responsible for managing the Resistance collections.
  • As a volunteer, you will support capacity building through mentoring, training, and knowledge transfer inthe documentation, preservation, and organisation of audiovisual materials.
  • Participate in planning sessions, consultation meetings, and technical workshops to strengthen archival practices and improve accessibility of collections.
  • Work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through contributing to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting access to cultural learning resources, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by safeguarding cultural heritage, and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by preserving and communicating Timor-Leste’s history of resistance and resilience.

About the Partner Organisation 

The partner is AMRT, I.P. (Arquivo & Museu da Resistência Timorense, Instituto Público), located in Dili, Timor-Leste.

AMRT, I.P. preserves and curates historical records, collections, and audiovisual materials related to Timor-Leste’s Resistance struggle. It serves as a national institution safeguarding cultural heritage and engaging the public through exhibitions, archives, and educational programs.

The organisation lacks specialised technical expertise in areas such as curation, exhibition design, and audiovisual archiving. A volunteer is needed to build staff capacity, introduce contemporary museological practices, and ensure that historical materials are properly documented, preserved, and made accessible to the public.

The allowance for the in-country phase is AUD$ 3305, the allowance for the remote phase is AUD$79 per month.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  

Additional requirements for this assignment include First Aid Certificate.
