We’re looking for a Sustainable Forestry Development Advisor who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Timor-Leste 


  • This assignment seeks to assist in developing policies and strategies for industrial forestry, providing guidance on investments, strengthening value chains, and identifying market opportunities, Support Policy and Strategy Development and Enhance Investment and Market Opportunities
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field 
  • You will be working alongside government officials
  • As a volunteer, you will provide technical guidance to enhance the effectiveness of ongoing reforestation efforts 
  • Work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through Climate Action and Life on Land.

About the Partner Organisation 


The Secretary of State for Forestry (SSF) is a government institution of Timor-Leste under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Forestry. It is responsible for overseeing forestry and conservation efforts, including nature conservation and forest management programs, while ensuring policy implementation and strategic forest management. To fulfill its mandate, the SSF is actively implementing the IX Government Program, which prioritizes forestry production and sustainable resource management. 


To support these efforts, a volunteer is needed to assist in developing policies and strategies for industrial forestry, providing guidance on investments, strengthening value chains, and identifying market opportunities. Additionally, the volunteer will offer international insights, particularly from Australia or other countries with established forestry industries to address gaps in local expertise and promote sustainable sector growth.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  

Additional requirements include a First Aid certificate
