We’re looking for a Surveyor Mentor who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Palau.


  • Provide support to achieve the goal of sharing knowledge and technical expertise with local surveyors, to improve the efficiency, accuracy and sustainability of surveying operations.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a degree in Geodetic Engineering plus at least 5 years of Survey experience.
  • As a volunteer, you will help to facilitate workshops and training sessions on survey procedures, computations, correct use of equipment, field data recording and quality control methods to ensure best international practices.


About the partner organisation 

The Bureau of Lands and Surveys (BLS) in the Republic of Palau, is the National Government Agency which is responsible for administering, managing, and documenting public lands and survey activities. It's primary role is to ensure accurate land identification, boundary determination, and the proper maintenance of official land records that support land ownership, land use planning and government development projects. The Bureau plays a critical role in protecting land tenure security, supporting sustainable land use and ensuring that land related decisions in Palau are based on accurate and legally recognised. survey information.


This assignment is focused on strengthening the technical capacity of the BLS by providing hands-on training and mentorship to local surveyors and field crews. The volunteer will assist in enhancing the professional skills of personnel by ensuring there are suitable survey methodologies, accurate data collection techniques and standardised survey procedures consistent with the BLS Survey Manual and internationally accepted surveying practices. Through workshops, field demonstrations and direct mentoring the volunteer will help build long-term technical capacity within the organisation to ensure local surveyors are well-equipped to be able to independently carry out professional surveying work.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  

Additional requirements for this assignment include providing or attaining a First Aid Certificate.
