We’re looking for a Special Education Teacher who can volunteer in a hybrid role both remotely (online) and in-country for a total of 4 months. 

  • This assignment seeks to improve theoretical and practical knowledge and experience by providing mentoring to the allied health staff, teachers and local team. 
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Bachelor’s degree or higher education diploma in Special Education or Speech Therapy.
  • As a volunteer, you will support the centre to develop resource materials for the professional community and parents/caregivers of children with intellectual disabilities and autism.

About the Partner Organisation 

Erkhem Nandin Suvd (ENS) is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation established in 2019 to promote the rights and best interests of children with disabilities, regardless of their type. It provides holistic and essential rehabilitation and educational services to children with severe and complex disabilities, particularly those who are excluded from mainstream schools and early childhood educational settings. Our vision is to promote the rights, well-being, and development of children with severe types of disability who are excluded from inclusiveness and who cannot participate in mainstream kindergarten and school. Our center is seeking a special education teacher, who is keen to improve both theoretical and practical skills through collaboration with the Australian volunteer. More importantly, around 70% of the children at our center require support with communication skills using AAC, signing or developing their speech. The volunteer will the allied health staff, speech therapist, occupational therapists, physiotherapists skill and knowledge to build a team around the child and family approach local team’s capacity to support the children and families in developing essential skills for daily living, play and learning. Additionally, the volunteer will deliver workshops and training sessions for parents of children with disabilities, helping them better understand developmental assessments and gain knowledge to support their child’s communication and learning through play.

There are two allowances for a hybrid assignment.

The allowance for the in-country phase is AUD$ 2,092 per month, the allowance for the remote phase is AUD$ 79 per month.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  
  • Additional requirements for this assignment include First Aid Certificate.
