Physiotherapist Mentor

We’re looking for a Physiotherapist Mentor who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Palau.

• This assignment seeks to support in-person training, sharing knowledge and improving the clinical skills of the physical therapists and other members of the rehabilitation team in patient care and treatment techniques.
• To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy (Master’s Degree preferred).
• Work with the team toward the goal of improving quality of life for patients by providing therapeutic exercises and education.

About the Partner Organisation 

The Rehabilitation Services Department (RSD) sits within the Division of Ancillary Services under the Bureau of Hospital and Clinical Services of the Ministry of Health and Human Services. The volunteer would be based primarily at the Belau National Hospital/RSD, as a majority of the services rendered are on an inpatient/outpatient care basis. Services are also extended through to school health and home health rehabilitation as well as community-based and rural outreach programs.

The volunteer will have the opportunity to visit multiple settings and locations. The RSD also has a partnership with the Palau National Olympic Committee and works closely with multiple national sports federations.

There are currently only 2 physiotherapists in Palau employed at the MHHS. Having a volunteer from Australia would help with mentoring and upskilling the physios along with the other local staff on the island. The future goals include expanding knowledge and clinical skills in rehabilitation which would be supported through on the job training, one-on-one learning, and lectures for continuing education.
