We’re looking for a Pearl Marketing Officer who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Tonga.

  • You will be working alongside the Association team to develop and implement a business plan as well as helping to generally strengthen the capacity of the Mabe Pearl Association in pearl industry development.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need qualifications in a related field (business, marketing or communications as well as a minimum of two years’ experience within the business, marketing or brand development sector. Ideally this would be in the jewellery, handicraft, design, industry, fashion or retail sectors.
  • Provide support in the development of pricing strategies and marketing approaches as well as assisting staff in preparing marketing analysis of sales products. 

About the Partner Organisation 

The Ministry of Fisheries is responsible for the conservation, management and development of sustainable fishery in the waters of Tonga. The overall aim of the Ministry is focused on the sustainable management of their fisheries, to support the establishment of community based special management areas, and to foster sustainable and profitable commercial fisheries and aquaculture. The main role of the Aquaculture section, a top priority for the Tongan government with the wish to increase Aquaculture Research and Development throughout Tonga.

Tonga's small but promising Mabe pearl farming industry offers significant potential development, and for delivering significant lifestyle advantages to the people of Tonga. The Ministry of Fisheries Aquaculture Section's highest priority is supporting and developing this industry, in conjunction with support from the University of the Sunshine Coast. The organisation wishes to have a volunteer to strengthen the practical skills, expertise and knowledge of the members of the Pearl Farmers Association and Aquaculture staff.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  

Additional requirements for this assignment include attaining a First Aid Certificate.
