About the Partner Organisation
Waniati Development Association Inc. is a community-based non-government organisation operating in Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea. Established as a community initiative, the organisation focuses on supporting vulnerable women and families in both rural and urban communities. Its programs are primarily centred in Goroka town and surrounding districts, where many expectant mothers face challenges accessing timely maternal healthcare services. Through community engagement and partnerships with local health facilities, Waniati Development Association works to strengthen support systems for pregnant women who may otherwise struggle to reach essential care.
The organisation aims to promote and support quality maternal and child health through innovative and community-focused approaches. It works closely with pregnant mothers, young women, and girls in rural villages, urban settlements, and schools to raise awareness about maternal health, childbirth risks, and the importance of seeking professional healthcare. Through health education and community outreach, the organisation helps women better understand the risks associated with pregnancy, childbirth, and the lack of accessible public health information.
A volunteer can support this assignment by providing technical expertise in policy development, mentoring staff, creating structured policy templates, and building organisational capacity. The role is not intended to replace local leadership but to complement it. Due to the specialised nature of donor-aligned policy design and the limited experience of local staff in meeting international funding standards, this position requires an external volunteer with proven expertise in organisational policy frameworks and compliance.
