About the Partner Organisation

The National Cancer Center of Lao People's Democratic Republic was established in 2017 & is one of the only providers of chemotherapy and palliative care for cancer patients in Laos. The NCC has 15 beds, with 5 beds for daily chemotherapy and 10 for in-patient care. There are 2 trained oncologists and 8 nurses. The National Cancer Centre's goal is to become a hub for cancer care within the framework of a national cancer care network of central and regional hospitals. The centre is working to achieve a comprehensive range of services, from early detection & accurate diagnosis to multidisciplinary treatment—surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and palliative care. The National Cancer Centre faces a range of challenges as the demand for its services exceeds its current operating capacity. The Operations Support Mentor is the first Australian Volunteer assignment placed with the Centre and will play an important role in establishing the partnership with the organisation. The volunteer will support a comprehensive review of the Centre's current operating systems and procedures. The volunteer will work closely with staff from the centre to identify priorities and develop a strategy for improving the overall operation of the centre. The volunteer will also support mapping existing resources and make recommendations about potential funding and technical development opportunities that can help increase the NCC's ability to deliver service to its patients.
