We’re looking for an Occupational Therapist Mentor who can live and volunteer in Palau for 12 months.
- This assignment seeks to support in-person training to share knowledge and improve clinical skills for the occupational therapist and other members of the rehabilitation team to improve patient care and treatment techniques.
- To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy (Master’s Degree preferred).
- As a volunteer, you will support capacity building in the areas of falls prevention, adaptive equipment training, care giving skills and care giver training.
About the Partner Organisation
The Rehabilitation Services Department (RSD) sits within the Division of Ancillary Services under the Bureau of Hospital and Clinical Services of the Ministry of Health and Human Services. The volunteer would be based primarily at the Belau National Hospital/RSD, as a majority of the services rendered are through inpatient/outpatient care basis. Services are also extended through school health and home health rehab as well as community-based and rural outreach programs, so the volunteer will have the opportunity to work in multiple settings and locations. The RSD has a partnership with the Palau National Olympic Committee and works closely with multiple national sports federations.
There is currently one occupational therapist in Palau, and no senior occupational therapists. Having a volunteer from Australia would help with mentoring and training the occupational therapist along with the other local staff on the island.
