We’re looking for a Mineral Exploration and Interpretation Mentor who can volunteer in a hybrid role both remotely (online) and in-country for a total of 12 months.
- This assignment seeks to strengthen technical expertise in advanced geophysical techniques, such as magnetic, gravity surveys etc, to support sustainable mineral exploration.
- To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Bachelor's degree in Geophysics, Geology, Earth Sciences, or related field, with a specific focus on geophysical exploration techniques.
- As a volunteer, you will support in developing hands-on experience and operational skills in deploying geophysical equipment and conducting field surveys to ensure accurate data collection and efficient exploration processes.
About the Partner Organisation
The Department of Geology and Mines is tasked with the exploration and development of mineral resources by providing essential geoscientific information on various minerals. The mapping and exploration section of the department is responsible for conducting regional scale geological mapping as well as detailed geological surveys, focusing on both industrial and metallic mineral resources. The volunteer assignment is crucial to the organisation as it addresses a significant gap in expertise. Currently, there are no individuals with domain-specific knowledge in geophysical data interpretation, particularly in advanced techniques such as magnetic and gravity surveys. These methods are relatively new to the department. A local person cannot fill this role due to the absence of qualified experts in the department and country. The volunteer’s expertise will not only enhance capabilities but also provide foundational knowledge transfer, enabling the development of internal capacity for future projects. This initiative is vital for advancing exploration efforts and achieving long-term organisational goals.
