We’re looking for a Mentor and Editor for the English News Bulletin who can volunteer in-country for 12 months. Join the Australian Volunteers Program to contribute to sustainable development across the Asia Archipelago.
- This assignment seeks to advanced editorial capacity and newsroom management for RTTL.EP’s English news team
- To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field
- You will be working alongside the World News team
- As a volunteer, you will support mentoring the world news team
About the Partner Organisation
Radio e Televisão de Timor-Leste, Empresa Pública (RTTL.EP) is the national public broadcaster of Timor-Leste, operating both radio and television services. With its roots in Radio UNAMET in 1999, RTTL.EP was formalized in 2002 and now functions as a public enterprise with a commercial arm. It reaches audiences across 14 districts, 65 sub-districts, and 450 villages through its two branches: Radio Timor Leste (RTL), broadcasting in Tetum and Portuguese, and Televisão de Timor Leste (TVTL), with a legacy dating back to 1978. RTTL.EP’s aim is to promote national unity and social harmony by delivering impartial, inclusive, and accessible media. It works with communities, government institutions, and civil society to foster public debate, uphold democratic values, and celebrate Timorese language and culture. The organization is committed to journalistic ethics and ensuring all voices are represented. Currently, RTTL.EP is undergoing a major transformation, shifting from analogue to digital broadcasting. Its strategic goals include expanding national and international reach, improving financial sustainability, reforming governance structures, and investing in staff development and infrastructure. RTTL.EP strives to be a credible, innovative, and inclusive media institution that reflects the aspirations of the Timorese people.

Requirements
- All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV).
- A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.
- A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
Additional requirements for this assignment include First Aid Certificate.
