We’re looking for a Macro-Economic Research Mentor who can live and volunteer in Tonga for 12 to 24 months.

  • As a volunteer, you will support the NRBT To build on the existing framework that ensures appropriate and relevant data/statistics are being collected and produced for the Financial Stability Review report, and also assist with financial stability policy analysis.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Bachelor degree or higher in Economics, Econometrics, Finance or experience in policy areas with a recognized institution.
  • This assignment seeks to support the team to establish a framework and implement guidelines for macro-economic research and the production of research papers.

About the Partner Organisation 

The National Reserve Bank of Tonga (NRBT), based in Nuku'alofa, is the central bank of Tonga. It is responsible for formulating and implementing monetary policy, regulating the issue and supply of domestic and international currency, regulating and supervising banks and non-bank financial institutions, promoting financial inclusion, as well as combating anti-money laundering & terrorist financing, amongst other functions.

The Bank has recently established a new department called the "Financial Stability" department that seeks to monitor and analyse the stability of the financial system as a whole. An international perspective would be greatly beneficial to them to support the establishment of policies, strategies and practices that are in line with international standards.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  

Additional requirements for this assignment include attaining a First Aid Certificate.
