We’re seeking a Legal Mentor who can live and volunteer in Timor-Leste for 12 months.
- This assignment seeks to support JSMP in expanding the scope and quality of its legal research
- To be considered for this role, you’ll need A degree in Law or Legal Studies, and demonstrated experience or formal training in legal research and analysis
- You will be working alongside the Legal Team at JSMP
About the Partner Organisation
The Judicial System Monitoring Program (JSMP) is a non-governmental organization based in Timor-Leste. JSMP monitors judicial proceedings, promotes legal reform, and advocates for democracy, justice, and human rights across Timor-Leste. It collaborates with courts, government institutions, civil society, and international partners to strengthen transparency and the rule of law.
JSMP relies on volunteer support to enhance legal literacy among citizens, contribute to professional capacity-building within justice institutions, and expand outreach and advocacy efforts for inclusive legal reform. http://jsmp.tl/

Requirements
- All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV).
- A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.
- A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
Additional requirements for this assignment include a First Aid Certificate.
