We’re looking for a Legal Mentor who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Niue.

  • This assignment seeks to enhance the legal and policy skills of staff as well as to support the delivery of outputs and outcomes by the Crown Law Office.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Bachelor of Laws and be admitted to practice in any Australian state or territory as well as a minimum of 5 years work experience in a government legal or legal policy office.
  • As a volunteer, you will capacity build staff to ensure they are able to respond in a timely manner to government requirements.

About the Partner Organisation 

The Crown Law Office, based in Alofi, provides legal advice to the Government of Niue. The Office is comprised of a very small team of lawyers led by the Solicitor General. All government matters which may have legal repercussions are consulted through the Crown Law Office.

The volunteer would work closely with the Solicitor General to support the capacity building of Crown Law staff to enhance their legal and policy skills as well as to assist the Office in raising administrative standards. This is an operational role that will involve mentoring staff on the job. The role will suit someone interested in mentoring and assisting local colleagues in all general legal matters.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  

Additional requirements for this assignment include attaining a First Aid Certificate.
