We’re looking for an Institutional Strengthening Mentor who can live and volunteer in Timor-Leste for 12 months.
- This assignment seeks toThis assignment seeks to advance quality education and expand access across Timor-Leste by strengthening staff capacity, improving teaching outcomes, and enhancing the management of educational resources.
- To be considered for this role, you’ll need a relevant degree in education or social sciences, with experience in pedagogy, school management, or capacity building. Prior international or cross-cultural experience is highly valued.
- You will be working alongside school management, teaching staff, and a small team of administrators within FSMR, a non-profit institution affiliated with the Don Bosco Salesian network.
- As a volunteer, you will support Capacity building through teacher training, leadership development, and administrative skills.
- Provide support in Resource mobilization efforts to strengthen the institution’s sustainability.
- Work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through Advancing SDG 4: Quality Education through improved teaching practices and student learning outcomes. Supporting SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by expanding access to inclusive education in Timor-Leste.Promoting SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through international volunteer collaboration.
About the Partner Organisation
Fundação Santa Maria Regina (FSMR) is a registered non-profit education organization based in Metinaro, Timor-Leste, with additional branches in Comoro and Kakaulidun (Dili).
FSMR delivers formal and non-formal education through schools and training programs, empowering youth with skills and knowledge that contribute to national development. It oversees institutions from pre-school to secondary vocational education, English-medium schooling, and is expanding into tertiary education.
FSMR faces a shortage of locally available skilled lecturers and qualified staff. Volunteers are needed to strengthen teacher training, improve school management, and build staff capacity, ensuring quality education and sustainable growth across its campuses.

Requirements
- All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV).
- A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.
- A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
Additional requirements for this assignment include First Aid Certifcate.
