We’re looking for a Health & Wellbeing Counsellor Mentor (Child & Family Safety) who can live and volunteer in Niue for 6 to 12 months.

  • This assignment seeks to foster culturally safe trauma-informated practice, enhance community healing and wellbeing as well as strenghthen collaboration and capacity.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a qualification or extensive experience in Community Services, Health, Counselling, Pastoral qualification or extensive experience in Community Services, Health, Counselling, Pastoral Leadership or trauma-informed practice.
  • You will be working alongside health staff, village leaders, churches and schools contributing to culturally meaningful, community-led programs, as well as support them to recognize and respond safely to family violence.

About the Partner Organisation 

The Niue Department of Health is responsible for promoting health and wellbeing across Niue. It works in collaboration with local communities, faith leaders, schools, and government agencies to support child protection, family safety, and mental health initiatives. The Department is committed to culturally safe and trauma-informed care, working alongside village leaders, churches, and youth and women’s groups to enhance family resilience and community wellbeing. 

This assignment is an opportunity to support the Niue Department of Health in strengthening child protection, family safety, and community wellbeing initiatives. The role would support the team to bridge the gap between community, health, and faith-based systems, delivering trauma-informed and culturally grounded support for children and families.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  

Additional requirements for this assignment include providing or attaining a First aid certificate.
