Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) is looking for a Grants Strategist for Student Program Development who can live and volunteer for 6 months in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

  • This assignment seeks to support the development of potential funding for Summer Program on Peace Education within the Department of International Relations in UMY.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a degree in either International Relations, Development Studies, Education, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • The volunteer is essential to work closely with the local staff to ensure proposals are grounded in Indonesia’s socio-cultural context, institutional realities, and community needs.

About the Partner Organisation

UMY is a leading private higher education institution located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Established in 1981 under the Muhammadiyah organisation—one of the largest Islamic social and educational movements in Southeast Asia—UMY integrates academic excellence with strong ethical and social values. The university comprises twelve faculties offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional programs, attracting students from across Indonesia and more than thirty countries. The volunteer will be based in the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, located at UMY’s main campus in Bantul Regency, which has a strong international orientation and experience in peace studies and community engagement.

UMY’s mission is to produce globally competent graduates with professional integrity and social responsibility. The Department of International Relations works with academic partners, local governments, civil society organisations, embassies, and international NGOs to support peace education and international cooperation. A key institutional priority is strengthening capacity in developing competitive funding proposals for peace education programs and short international courses.

Currently, UMY is advancing its internationalisation agenda by developing an annual Summer Program on Peace Education aligned with SDG 16. While academic foundations and partnerships are strong, targeted support is needed to enhance donor mapping, proposal writing, and funding sustainability, ensuring long-term program continuity and impact.
