·      To be considered for this role, you’ll need experience with all types of gardening including in-ground, raised beds and aeroponic systems as well as composting strategies.

·      You will be working alongside local experts supporting them to carry the work forward sustainably.

 About the Partner Organisation

Canvasback Missions, based in Majuro in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, has partnered with the Ministry of Health and many other organizations to focus on reversing the epidemic of Diabetes. Their strategy includes empowering healthy lifestyles, early detection of disease and establishing local food availability. They have established gardens combined with a Canteen policy for nutritious school lunches as well as encouraging exercise with outdoor walking programs and sports. The activities from the most recent Grant, awarded to them from the World Diabetes Foundation, involves planting over 50 gardens and encouraging school vendors, parents and school cafeterias to incorporate the produce into the children's lunches. Along with the newly introduced physical education curriculum they endeavour to achieve a reduction in BMI levels in local children.

The volunteer would assist Canvasback Missions to establish gardens in selected elementary schools and communities in partnership with local experts. They would also support the development of knowledge sharing activities to empower the students and community and engage them in sustainable practices.
