Environment and Sustainability Advisor

We’re looking for an Environmental and Sustainability Advisor who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Timor-Leste.

• This assignment seeks to strengthen environmental governance and regulatory compliance by supporting the review of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), environmental licensing processes, and the implementation of environmental safeguards.
• To be considered for this role, you'll need a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Law, or a related field, along with at least three years' experience in Environmental Impact Assessment, environmental management, and regulatory compliance.
• As a volunteer, you will support capacity building, technical mentoring, environmental assessments, compliance inspections, and knowledge sharing to strengthen ANLA's institutional capacity and environmental licensing processes.

About the partner organisation 

The National Environmental Licensing Authority (ANLA, I.P.) is Timor-Leste's national government agency responsible for environmental licensing and regulatory oversight, operating nationwide from its headquarters in Dili.

ANLA, I.P., evaluates environmental impacts, issues environmental licenses, monitors compliance, and enforces environmental laws and policies to ensure that development projects are environmentally sustainable and socially responsible. The organisation works closely with government agencies, project developers, and local communities to promote sustainable development while protecting ecosystems and public health.

ANLA, I.P. requires a volunteer with specialized expertise in environmental assessment and regulatory compliance to strengthen its capacity to review Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), assess Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), conduct compliance monitoring, and support environmental licensing processes. Due to the limited availability of these technical skills locally, the volunteer will play an important role in providing technical guidance, mentoring staff, and building institutional capacity to improve environmental governance and safeguard sustainable development in Timor-Leste.
