We’re looking for an Education Program Officer who can live and volunteer in Tanzania for 12 months.
- As a volunteer, you will support with hands-on mentorship and capacity building, equipping the team with skills to sustain and expand the program in the long-term.
- To be considered for this role, you’ll need a relevant educational background in Early Childhood Education, Montessori Education, Special Education, or a related field.
- You will be working alongside house mothers, therapists, and activity instructors in child-centred learning techniques, mentoring them to ensure sustainable implementation of therapeutic activities.
About the Partner Organisation
Kafika House, based in Arusha, is a rehabilitative surgery program in northern Tanzania. It provides a home away from home for children receiving pre- and post-operative care and rehabilitation for a surgically treatable disability. Kafika House's scope of practice encompasses patient recruitment through outreach, preoperative care, surgical care at one of partner hospitals, and full recuperation and rehabilitation.
This volunteer assignment is crucial for Kafika House as it will help strengthen and enhance therapeutic activity programs, ensuring that children with disabilities receive high-quality, structured activities that support their cognitive, emotional, and physical development. A volunteer educator with Montessori or similar experience can support the team to introduce child-centred, play-based, learning strategies that foster independence, creativity, and engagement in rehabilitation.

Requirements
- All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV).
- A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.
- A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
- A First Aid Certificate must be attained for this assignment.
