We’re looking for a Doctor as a Medical Care Mentor who can live and volunteer in Tanzania for 12 months.

  • This assignment seeks to support the review of clinical guidelines, patient assessment tools, and care pathways to ensure consistent, high-quality medical care.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Medical degree (MBBS/MD) and have experience in pediatric care, surgery-related patient management, or rehabilitative medicine.
  • As a volunteer, you will support the provision of medical assessments, treatment, and follow-up care to improve surgical outcomes and overall health for children with surgically treatable disabilities.

About the Partner Organisation

Kafika House, based in Arusha, is a rehabilitative surgery program in northern Tanzania. It provides a home away from home for children receiving pre- and post-operative care and rehabilitation for a surgically treatable disability. Kafika House's scope of practice encompasses patient recruitment through outreach, preoperative care, surgical care at one of partner hospitals, and full recuperation and rehabilitation.

This volunteer assignment will enhance medical care for children with surgically treatable disabilities through improving medical systems within the organisation. A paediatrician or general practitioner will support pre- and post-operative care, assessments, and mentor local staff to strengthen long-term capacity. While the Kafika House prioritizes hiring locally, there is a limited pool of paediatricians and general practitioners with experience in rehabilitative and post-surgical care, especially in the non-profit sector. The volunteer will help bridge this gap while continuing to developing local expertise.
