We’re looking for a Digital Learning and Teaching Mentor who canlive and volunteer for 10 months in Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea.

  • This assignment seeks to build the capacity of academic staff in the Division of Physical Sciences to effectively use digital learning tools and integrate technology into their teaching practices.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a bachelor’s degree in education, Digital Learning, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • As a volunteer, you will provide mentoring and coaching to academic staff on embedding digital tools into lesson planning, classroom delivery, and student engagement.

About the Partner Organisation

The University of Goroka (UOG) is a leading public university located in the Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea. Originally established as a teachers’ college in 1967, it became a fully-fledged university in 1997. UOG primarily serves students from across the Highlands region and beyond, with growing national and regional reach through its expanding academic and research programs.

UOG’s core mission is to provide quality higher education, training, and research that contribute to national development. While teacher education remains its flagship, the university also offers programs in health sciences, agriculture, business, social sciences, and the arts. UOG works closely with government, development partners, schools, and communities to ensure its graduates are equipped with practical skills and a strong sense of social responsibility.

Currently, the University has access to learning management systems such as Moodle and SMAT, but these platforms are underutilized due to limited familiarity among staff. The ICT Division, which is understaffed, lacks the capacity to provide individualized training. A skilled international volunteer with experience in digital pedagogy can bridge this gap by mentoring staff, designing user-friendly training modules, and supporting implementation - roles that cannot presently be filled locally due to a shortage of relevant expertise.
