We’re looking for a Digital Archivist Mentor who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Tonga.  


  • This assignment seeks to strengthen the filing system by digitizing the existing manual filing system and to build staff capacity in digitizing the filing system and its maintenance. .
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a Degree in Library and Information Science, Archival Studies, or a related field with Practical experience in records management and digital archiving 
  • As a volunteer, you will support to advance the modernisation of operations and ensure alignment with government priorities relating to transparency, resilience, and efficiency.

About the partner organisation 

The Ministry of Meteorology, Energy, Information, Disaster Management, Environment, Climate Change and Communications (MEIDECC) is one of the largest ministries within the government of Tonga. Established in 2015, MEIDECC delivers technical services and policy leadership across a wide range of critical sectors, including meteorology, energy, information, disaster management, environment, climate change, and communications. 


A volunteer Digital Archivist Mentor can provide specialised expertise in digitisation, metadata standards, and modern archiving practices by training staff to sustain these practices.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.
