We’re looking for a Digital Archives Mentor who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Kiribati.

  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need Bachelor or Master’s degree in library science, archival studies, or a related field as well as experience in preservation and conservation techniques by means of the digitization process.
  • Digital Archives Mentor would offer technical guidance and assistance to cross-functional teams to plan and execute technical projects.

About the Partner Organisation

The Kiribati National Archives, based in Bairiki Tarawa, serves as the primary repository for all archival materials in Kiribati, safeguarding the heritage of the Kiribati people. The fundamental objective of the archival mission at the Archives is preservation, which enhances the longevity of all collections and contributes to the advancement and protection of historical information derived from Kiribati's public records or historical artifacts. The collections housed within the Kiribati National Archives are treasure troves of history, containing documents, photographs, letters, and various other items from bygone eras including information on births deaths and marriages. The aim of the Archives is to deliver high-quality information and services by ensuring efficiency, accessibility, and the preservation of all archival materials through the use of automated systems in this digital era.

Numerous archival collections are being maintained, but the archive has significant challenges for digitization. To effectively and efficiently provide access to information for the public and scholars, it is important to address the issue of facilitating the digitization of all archival materials.

This volunteer role is crucial for the successful implementation of the new system, which aims to automate all archival records. This assignment primarily focuses on support for the team who are doing the digitization. The Digital Archives Mentor would offer technical guidance and assistance to both staff and clients.
