We’re looking for a Curation and Exhibition Design Specialist who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Timor-Leste
- This assignment seeks to advance AMRT, I.P.’s exhibition practices by upgrading museological standards, introducing contemporary curatorial approaches, and enhancing public engagement through renewed exhibition narrative
- To be considered for this role, you’ll need qualifications in museum studies, curation, or exhibition design (ideally a postgraduate degree), along with several years of professional experience in curatorial practice, exhibition design, or cultural heritage management.
- You will be working alongside AMRT, I.P. staff, including curators, archivists, and government officials responsible for cultural heritage
- As a volunteer, you will support capacity building through mentoring, training, and knowledge transfer in curatorial methods, exhibition design, and public engagement strategies.
- Work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through contributing to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting cultural learning, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by safeguarding cultural heritage, and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by preserving and communicating Timor-Leste’s history of resistance and resilience.
About the Partner Organisation
The partner is AMRT, I.P. (Arquivo & Museu da Resistência Timorense, Instituto Público), located in Dili, Timor-Leste.
AMRT, I.P. preserves, curates, and exhibits the historical records and collections related to Timor-Leste’s Resistance struggle. It serves as a national institution safeguarding cultural heritage and engaging the public through exhibitions and educational programs.
The organisation is in the process of upgrading its museological standards and exhibition practices but lacks specialist expertise in contemporary curation and exhibition design. A volunteer is needed to provide technical guidance, build staff capacity, and support the development of engaging, modern exhibition narratives that effectively communicate the historical and cultural significance of the Resistance collection.
