We’re looking for a Clinical Nutritionist/Dietician Mentor who can live and volunteer for 10 months in South Africa.

  • As a volunteer, you will support the review of menus to ensure they provide suitable nutritional intake based on the disabilities of the residents and other health challenges they may be experiencing. 
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a relevant qualification in Clinical Nutrition / Dietetics as well as experience around nutrition and health issues for persons with disabilities. 
  • Provide training support in correct handling and preparation of food to ensure quality healthy food is provided to the residents.

About the Partner Organisation 

Ann Harding Cheshire Home (AHCH), based in Johanessburg, is a residential care facility for adults with permanent physical disability. The facility aims to create a society where persons with disabilities have equal opportunities. Their mission is to assist people with disabilities regardless of their colour, race or creed, by providing the conditions necessary for their physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

The residents at the Ann Harding Cheshire Home all live with a physical disability and the majority are wheelchair dependent and as a result have little to no physical activity on a daily basis. The Home does have access to a dietitian through their catering company, however, the catering company's knowledge of diet for persons with disabilities specifically, is limited. A volunteer is needed to capacity build the team to care for residents dietary needs into the future.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  

Additional requirements for this assignment include attaining a First Aid Certificate.
