Climate Change and Resilience Specialist

We’re looking for a Climate Change and Resilience specialist who can live and volunteer for 12 months in Timor-Leste

• This assignment seeks to advance climate resilience, sustainable development, and Blue Economy initiatives within Dili Municipal Authority by strengthening climate-responsive planning, environmental sustainability, and community resilience.
• You will be working alongside municipal staff, government officials, and local stakeholders to support climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, coastal resource management, and sustainable economic development initiatives.
• As a volunteer, you will support capacity building, policy development, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge transfer to enhance the Authority’s ability to integrate climate change adaptation and resilience measures into municipal planning and decision-making.

About the partner organisation 

Dili Municipal Authority (Autoridade Municipal de Díli - AMD) is the local government institution responsible for the administration and development of Dili Municipality, the capital city of Timor-Leste. AMD delivers public services and coordinates local development initiatives across the administrative posts of Cristo Rei, Dom Aleixo, Metinaro, Nain Feto, and Vera Cruz. The Authority works with government agencies, communities, civil society organisations, development partners, and the private sector to promote sustainable urban development, improve infrastructure and environmental management, strengthen disaster risk management, and enhance the quality of life for residents. AMD requires a volunteer with specialist expertise in climate change adaptation, resilience planning, environmental sustainability, and sustainable economic development to strengthen its capacity to address growing climate-related challenges. The volunteer will support municipal staff through technical advice, capacity building, policy development, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge transfer, particularly in climate-resilient planning and Blue Economy initiatives, where such specialised expertise is not readily available locally.
