We’re looking for a Climate Change and Environmental Specialist who can volunteer in a hybrid role, working remotely (online) for 6 months and in-country in the Philippines for a further 6 months, for a total of 12 months.

  • This assignment seeks to advance West Visayas State University’s transition from regulatory environmental compliance to proactive, internationally aligned climate action through the development of a university‑wide Climate Action Strategic Roadmap and strengthened technical systems for sustainability.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need postgraduate qualifications in Climate Change, Sustainability, Environmental Management, or a related field, along with demonstrated experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives, ideally within higher education or large institutions.
  • As a volunteer, you will support capacity building, technical mentoring, and institutional strengthening, including carbon footprint assessments, climate‑smart planning, development of monitoring frameworks, and integration of climate change principles into academic and operational systems.

About the Partner Organisation

West Visayas State University (WVSU) is a state university located in Iloilo City, Western Visayas, Philippines. Through its Environmental Resources Management Office (ERMO), WVSU leads the planning and implementation of environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and resource management initiatives across its main and external campuses, while ensuring compliance with national environmental regulations and alignment with global sustainability standards.

The partner organisation requires a volunteer due to the need for specialised international expertise in climate action planning, carbon auditing, and “Green Campus” frameworks, which are not readily available locally. The volunteer will help institutionalise advanced systems and transfer technical knowledge to local counterparts, ensuring long‑term sustainability beyond the assignment period.
