We’re looking for a Children's Inclusive Librarian Mentor who can live and volunteer for 6 months in the Federated States of Micronesia.

  • This assignment seeks to capacity build library staff through specialized training support in disability awareness and inclusive practices, expand access to adaptive and sensory-friendly learning materials, and help to develop inclusive library programs tailored to diverse learning needs.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a relevant tertiary qualification in Library and Information Services and experience in training in disability and inclusion practices.
  • Participate in the initiative which will empower parents and caregivers by offering training and practical resources to support their children’s learning at home and in the community.

About the Partner Organisation

The Pohnpei Public Library was developed to meet the community’s need for accessible library services, the Library officially opened in February 1988 as an all-volunteer initiative. Ithas grown to include full-time staff, a dedicated children’s reading room, and a computer lab, expanding both its services and its impact not only within the library but also in the community.

The Library serves a diverse population, including children with disabilities who regularly access library programs and facilities; however, staff currently lack the specialized training, adaptive materials, and learning resources needed to effectively support these children. With the support of a volunteer they hope that they will be able to create a more welcoming, equitable, and supportive library environment for children with disabilities and their families.
