We’re looking for a Child Occupational Therapy Trainer who can volunteer in a hybrid role both remotely (online) and in-country for a total of 12 months.

  • This assignment seeks to help bridge the gap in specialist child occupational therapy services by conducting assessments, developing and implementing individualised intervention plans, supporting children and families, and contributing to multidisciplinary case discussions.
  • You will be working alongside clinical counsellors, psychiatrists and mental health professionals to strengthen multidisciplinary support for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and other developmental conditions.
  • As a volunteer, you will support capacity building through mentoring and training local staff, as well as contributing to the development and delivery of a Child Occupational Therapy certificate or diploma program with the PEMA Centre and KGUMSB.

About the partner organisation

The PEMA Centre, formerly the Department of Psychiatry at Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH), is Bhutan’s national tertiary referral centre for mental health services, located in Thimphu, Bhutan.

The PEMA Centre provides specialised mental health services for children, adolescents and adults, including outpatient, inpatient, emergency, community-based and consultation-liaison care. It also plays a key role in mental health education, research, workforce development and strengthening mental health services across Bhutan.

The partner needs specialist Child Occupational Therapy expertise to strengthen multidisciplinary services for children with developmental and behavioural conditions, particularly ASD and ADHD. A volunteer will help build the capacity of local mental health professionals through clinical mentoring, training and knowledge sharing, while also supporting the development of a Child Occupational Therapy training program to build longer-term local expertise.
