We’re looking for a Biomedical Technician Mentor who can live and volunteer for 6 months in Kirimitati Island in Kiribati.

  • You will be working alongside the team to develop and document the one-year Biomedical work plan, including maintenance schedules and training activities.
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need a ​​Diploma or Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Equipment Technology, or a related field, and a minimum of 3–5 years practical experience.
  • Provide support by working closely with the biomedical technician to offer practical on the job training.  ​ 

About the Partner Organisation 

​​The Hospital in London on Kirimitati Island in Kiribati, has the following departments, emergency/outpatient, maternity, labor ward, operating theatre, dental unit, pharmacy, laboratory, Radiology, Environmental unit, Eye clinic, Health promotion, carpentry and biomedical unit.  The hospital also supports the health of the people in the outer Islands of the Line and Phoenix group, namely Washington, Fanning and Canton Islands.​ 

​​The aim of this assignment is to ensure that all the equipment in respective departments is managed well and repaired promptly if a fault is identified. The biomedical unit is supported by one bio medical technician who is responsible for all of the equipment in all departments. This technician could benefit from an experienced technician to offer capacity building and enable him to fix more complicated equipment.  The future goal is to be self-sufficient in fixing and maintaining equipment without needing assistance from staff at the hospital in Tarawa.​

Allowance

AUD$1 417 per month for a living allowance, accommodation is provided.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  
  • Additional requirements for this assignment include providing or attaining a First Aid Certificate.
