We’re looking for an Advocacy Mentor who can volunteer in a hybrid role both remotely for 2 months then in country for 10 months in Lesotho.

  • This assignment seeks to focus on policy analysis, legislative reform, campaign strategy, and strategic communications with the aim of ensuring that LNFOD can successfully influence decision-makers and public opinion into the future.  
  • To be considered for this role, you’ll need relevant qualifications in law, human rights, political science, public policy, social sciences, or a related field as well as demonstrated experience in policy advocacy, legislative engagement, or campaigning, preferably related to disability rights or social justice.
  • As a volunteer, you will support the development of national disability inclusion guidelines.

About the Partner Organisation 

The Lesotho National Federation of Organisations of the Disabled (LNFOD), based in Maseru, is the national umbrella body representing organisations of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Lesotho. It works to promote and advocate for the rights and inclusion of all PWDs throughout the country. LNFOD's core aim is to support the empowerment of its member organisations and the wider disability community through advocacy, capacity building, and programmatic interventions.

This volunteer assignment is fundamental to LNFOD’s strategic priorities of advancing disability rights through effective policy implementation, strategic communication, and organisational strengthening. The volunteer will work closely with the Advocacy & Human Rights Officer, providing mentorship and technical guidance to enhance their skills and capacity to lead LNFOD’s advocacy work.

There are two allowances for a hybrid assignment.

The allowance for the in-country phase is AUD$ 2,000 per month, the allowance for the part time remote phase is AUD$ 79 per month.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV). 
  • A National Police Check must be completed during the application process.  
  • A Psychological Test is required for all volunteer assignments.  

Additional requirements for this assignment include providing or attaining a First Aid Certificate.
