About the Partner Organisation

Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) is a relatively new field in Vietnam. Hai Duong Medical Technical University (HMTU) is a public organisation which is governed by the Ministry of Health. HMTU has the mission to train medical doctor, nurses, medical technicians (Rehabilitation, Medical Laboratory and Medical Imaging) for the health care system of Vietnam. Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) is a relatively new field in Vietnam. Currently, only two universities in Vietnam—Da Nang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy (DUMTP) and Hai Duong Medical Technical University (HMTU)—offer a Bachelor Program in SALT. However, there is a shortage of local qualified speech and language therapists with the skills and experience needed to support the implementation of these new programs, particularly at HMTU and its teaching hospital. HMTU has only four lecturers with postgraduate degrees in SALT, while educators at the teaching hospitals have only 3 to 6 months of certificate training in SALT. Therefore, the involvement of overseas Speech and Language Therapy volunteers is crucial for the successful delivery of the SALT Bachelor program and for the overall development of the SALT profession in Vietnam.
