About the Partner Organisation
The main purpose of the organisation is to improve the lives of persons with disabilities in Indonesia by using the power of sport. BSF was set up in 2009, focus on providing sporting opportunities for persons with disabilities. During the last 12 years of operation, BSF has been responsible to increase the number of disabled sports programs available in Indonesia to 16, whereas previously there were very few.
BSF works with numerous NGO and special schools for children with disabilities to provide related support. BSF has held the Bali Para Games for the last 10 years up to the COVID period and has introduced several new paralympic sports to Indonesia through the Bali ParaGames with focus on women athletes, including boccia, blind judo, wheelchair fencing, disabled sailing, wheelchair rugby and women’s 3-on-3 wheelchair basketball.
In 2020 BSF set up BSF Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) office and storage in North Lombok (with DFAT support). In 2021 BSF set up Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) Office and storage in West Timor (Atambua). The plan is to have an BSF East Indonesia ParaSports League with teams and athletes in Lombok and West Timor to start, followed by other islands in the future.
In NTB, BSF collaborates with local schools, disabled people's organisations, social offices (Dinsos), and health centres (Puskesmas) to provide accessible sport programs.
Currently, BSF NTB is expanding its adaptive sailing program, which is seen as both a tool for empowerment and as a pathway to national and international competition. BSF aims to develop local coaching capacity, increase athlete participation, and prepare a sailing team for Pekan Paralimpik Nasional/National Paralympic Week (PeParNas) 2028.
