We’re looking for an Emergency Nurse Educator who can live and volunteer in Timor-Leste for six months. Join the Australian Volunteers Program to contribute to sustainable development across the Asia Archipelago.

  • This assignment will contribute to the delivery of safe and effective team-based emergency care to all patients that are seen in HNGV ED, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes (ie, reduced death and disability). The ENE will not be primarily responsible for service delivery, but will work alongside other staff to enable optimal care within the available resources.
  • To be considered for this role, you must have a Tertiary qualification in Nursing and post-graduate qualifications in critical care/emergency nursing
  • You will be working alongside the Emergency Team at HNGV
  • As a volunteer, you will support Capacity building for Emergency team members.
  • Participate in meetings, planning, and consulting
  • Provide support in Capacity development
  • Work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

About the Partner Organisation

The partner is Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares (HNGV), located in Dili, the capital city of Timor-Leste. HNGV is the national referral hospital providing high-quality, specialized healthcare to the Timorese population. It also serves as a key training institution for clinicians, offering hands-on education and clinical supervision.

The partner needs a volunteer due to a shortage of senior emergency-trained medical staff, which limits their capacity to supervise and train junior clinicians. A volunteer will help build clinical skills, strengthen emergency care delivery, and contribute to improved patient outcomes.

ACEM will provide technical support for this role via a Country Liaison Representative (CLR) and its Global Emergency Care Committee (GECCo) - there is precedent for simular roles in several Pacific countries (Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea). A joint application for a visiting emergency medicine registrar (VEMR) will also be submitted at the same time. It would be beneficial to have both these roles established and filled at the same time.
