Tuvalu is a group of 9 coral atolls situated in the South Pacific. Among the smallest nations in the world and with a highest elevation of 5m, sea level rises create serious cause for concern.

Part of the Commonwealth, Tuvalu became independent from the UK in 1978.

Natural resources are scarce and unemployment is high, so many people rely on subsistence farming, fishing and remittances from overseas workers.

Since 2000, Tuvalu has made significant income from the leasing of its ".tv" internet domain name.

AVI's current involvement in Tuvalu is via the Pacific Technical Assistance Mechanism (PACTAM).
