Australian Government Volunteer Program - update
Volunteer Program update - 21 July 2010
AusAID, the Australian Government's overseas aid program, is
proud to provide significant support for Australian Volunteers who
work in a development capacity overseas. AusAID are re-modelling
the Australian volunteer program: encouraging consistency and
collaboration between the different AusAID international
volunteering providers including Australian Volunteers
International (AVI).
Unifying the volunteer program
It's been AusAID's intention that a new single branded volunteer
program would be initiated for the 2010/11 financial year. Although
substantial work has been achieved to the new program by both
AusAID and the Core Partners - including Australian Volunteers
International (AVI) - implementation arrangements have been
delayed.
To enable some continuity in program management, AusAID is
currently in the process of extending its previous contractual
arrangements with AVI at the same funding levels as 2009/10.
Some changes to AVI recruitment levels
Unfortunately, the level of funds available to AVI during
this transition period is not sufficient to enable AVI to recruit
and mobilise the same number of new volunteers as in previous
years.
• The level of funding available will, however, enable AVI to
mobilise all current candidates who have received final
confirmation of their assignment.
• Recruitment already underway will be prioritised and completed
in line with revised implementation schedules and in light of
available funding.
Future assignments: watch this space
AVI may be able to proceed with future advertising or
recruitment for volunteer assignments should further funds become
available. AVI will be prioritising roles to be advertised to
enable new assignments to commence as early as practicable from
July 2011, or earlier if funds become available.
