Remembering Australia's first official international volunteer Herb Feith

The Herb Feith Foundation invites you to attend two special events this year in Caulfield (Melbourne) and Canberra to launch the new autobiography From Vienna to Yogyakarta: The Life of Herb Feith, by Jemma Purdey.

Herb Feith was Australia's first official international volunteer in 1951. He was the inspiration for the creation of the Volunteer Graduate Scheme and the Overseas Service Bureau (now AVI), and a great humanitarian.

Melbourne event

This special event features Her Excellency Kirsty Sword Gusmao, Mr Peter Mares and Ms Jemma Purdey, author of From Vienna to Yogyakarta: The Life of Herb Feith.

What: 2011 Herb Feith Memorial Lecture and launch of "From Vienna to Yogyakarta: The Life of Herb Feith"

Canberra event

The Faculty of Arts at Monash University in partnership with representatives of the Indonesia, Regional Issues and East Timor Branch, DFAT and the office of Andrew Leigh MP will host a special book launch at Parliament House, Canberra.  

What: Launch of From Vienna to Yogyakarta: The Life of Herb Feith.

Venue: Parliament House, Canberra ACT (Meet at main entrance at 5.45pm sharp to sign in for a 6pm start)
