AVI staff and supporters would like
to congratulate Australian wheelchair athlete and AVI Board member
Kurt Fearnley for the momentus achievement of completing a 12-day
trek of the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea earlier this week.
Only days after winning the New York
marathon, Kurt took on the Kokoda Track with a team of trekkers,
that included his brothers, coach and long-term media manager. Kurt
and his team took on the Kokoda challenge to raise awareness of
depression and men's health.
Prior to tackling the track Kurt was
the guest speaker at an AVI co -hosted "welcome" event with local
PNG volunteer movement The Voice at AVI's partner organisation
Cheshire Homes. Three AVI volunteers have worked with Cheshire
Homes, an organisation that assisted people with disabilities and
their families since 1966. Sevices at Cheshire Homes include the
provision of residential care, rehabilitation and education
programs.
